The 5 Best Beginner Runs in Crans-Montana

If you are visiting Crans-Montana for the first time and just starting out on skis, the sheer size of the resort can feel overwhelming. With over 140km of slopes spread across four valleys, where do you even begin?

Good news: Crans-Montana is actually one of the most beginner-friendly resorts in the Swiss Alps. The terrain is naturally gentle in many areas, the sun exposure is excellent (south-facing), and the views are spectacular even from the easiest runs.

Here are our five favorite runs for beginners:

1. The Golf Practice Area (Crans)

This is where most of our youngest students take their first steps. A flat, wide-open area near the Crans side of the resort with a magic carpet lift. No steep drops, no fast skiers zooming past. Just snow, sunshine, and space to find your balance.

Perfect for: Complete first-timers, children aged 2-5, anyone who wants to get comfortable before heading to the lifts.

2. Piste des Barzettes (Blue)

A wide, gentle blue run that winds down from Barzettes. It has consistent pitch without any sudden steep sections, and it is groomed beautifully every morning. The views across the Rhone valley are stunning -- you might forget you are learning to ski.

Perfect for: Second-day skiers who have mastered the snowplow and want a real run.

3. Arnouva to Crans (Blue)

One of the longest gentle runs in the resort. It takes you through forest sections with beautiful light filtering through the trees. The pace is relaxed and there is plenty of width to practice your turns.

Perfect for: Building stamina and confidence over a longer distance.

4. Signal to Cry d'Err (Blue)

Once you feel solid on blue runs, this is a beautiful progression. You take the gondola up to Signal and cruise down a wide boulevard with panoramic views of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, and the entire chain of 4,000m peaks. On a clear day, it is genuinely breathtaking.

Perfect for: Intermediate beginners ready to explore the mountain.

5. The Plaine Morte Glacier Run

Okay, this is not technically a beginner run. But hear us out: the glacier at 2,927m is a flat, wide plateau. You can stand on a real glacier, surrounded by peaks, and ski on the gentlest slope imaginable. The experience alone is worth it. You take the gondola up and it is genuinely magical.

Perfect for: A once-in-a-lifetime experience even at a beginner level (with an instructor).

Our tip

No matter which run you start with, having an instructor who knows the mountain makes all the difference. We will pick the right run for your level, avoid the crowded spots, and make sure you are having fun -- not fighting fear.
